Indonesia adhere to prohibit the export of nickel ore ,is seeking to enhance mining activities

According to the Jakarta Sept. 1 news, an Indonesian senior government official said, Indonesia will continue to ban the export of nickel ore. This is contrary to previous media reports, the media reported that the country may relax the ban in order to boost the economy.

Indonesia early 2014 banned the export of unprocessed metal ores, thereby forcing companies to build smelters. But the move led to the country lost billions of dollars in revenues last year.

Darmin Nasution, Indonesia's chief economics minister said on Tuesday that Indonesia will seek to implement the mining policy. This statement obtained mining minister Sudirman Said affirmed.

Said said: "We are seeking to enhance the operational activities of nickel and bauxite." He added that Indonesia will not relax nickel ore export ban.

Indonesian Business Daily (Bisnis Indonesia) on Monday quoted the Department of Energy's coal business executives Adhi Wibowo, then it reported that the country may relax bauxite and nickel ore export ban.

Tuesday could not be reached to comment on this Wibowo.

Before the Indonesian government has said it plans to postpone the deadline for the export of copper concentrate, and may relax bauxite export ban.

However, according to the Ministry of Energy and Mines, Mineral Resources and coal Affairs Commissioner Bambang Gatot, no relaxation of unprocessed nickel ore and bauxite exports-related plans.

He said Indonesia was completed this month evaluate domestic smelter building. "We will first understand the results of the assessment."

"Rumors about the relaxation of the ban often rise, but if really relaxed the ban, then it shows that the Government is not consistent."
