Turkey became a net importer of steel in the first half 2015

According to the latest data release of the Turkish Iron and Steel Producers' Association, the first half of 2015, down (especially in the last few months) between raw materials and finished steel (1970, -10.00, -0.51%) profit margins, intense global steel market competition and dumping steel influx, making Turkey the steel trade balance reversed to become a net importer of steel. Statistics show that in the first half, the Turkish steel imports rose 34.4 percent to reach 9.03 million tons, worth $ 6.25 billion; steel exports fell 10.1 percent year on year to 8.47 million tons, a significant decline in exports up 21.4 percent to $ 6.26 billion .

Sub-species, the first half, Turkey imported 1.44 million tons of slab, an increase of up to 114.7%; billet imports were 1.14 million tons, up 62.5%; imports rose 25.5 percent year on year plate to 4.13 million tons; length timber imports grew by 7.3%, reaching 797,000 tons; pipe imports were up 10.8 percent to 228,000 tons.

The first half of Turkey's steel exports declined year on year, mainly due to the downturn in the country's main export market demand and is facing fierce competition from Chinese steel. The first half of Turkish billet exports declined significantly by 21.9% year on year to 151,000 tons; long steel exports amounted to 5.24 million tons, down 10%; plate export volume of 113 million tons, down 10.1%; however, steel exports an increase of 3.8 percent to 953,000 tons.
